Electrical 201.1
Introduction to Basic Construction Skills and the Electrical Trade
Course: 201.1 Introduction to Basic Construction Skills and the Electrical Trade (100 hrs)
Course Description: This foundational course introduces students to essential skills for success in the electrical and construction trades. Through hands-on training and classroom instruction, students will learn jobsite safety, tool usage, construction math, blueprint reading, and effective communication. The course also emphasizes employability skills and safe materials handling.
Upon successful completion of this class, students will be able to:
- Practice jobsite safety and PPE use following OSHA guidelines
- Apply basic construction math for measurements and materials
- Use and maintain common hand and power tools
- Read and interpret basic construction drawings
- Communicate effectively in a construction setting
- Demonstrate key employability skills (punctuality, teamwork, problem-solving)
- Safely handle and move construction materials
- Successfully pass NCCER CORE written and performance assessments for each module, meeting industry standards for entry-level employment in the trades.
Upon successful completion of this class, students will earn their NCCER CORE Certification and OSHA-10 Certification.
Electrical 201.2
Electrical Foundations
Course: 201.2 Electrical Foundations (100 hrs)
Course Description: This course builds core knowledge in electrical theory, safety practices, and circuit fundamentals. Students will learn to work with electrical conductors, test equipment, and the National Electrical Code (NEC®), while gaining hands-on experience installing and troubleshooting basic circuits.
Upon successful completion of this class, students will be able to:
- Understand electrician roles across residential, commercial, and industrial settings
- Apply electrical safety practices (OSHA & NFPA 70E)
- Use Ohm’s and Watt’s Laws to calculate basic circuit values
- Build and test series and parallel circuits
- Select appropriate electrical conductors for various applications
- Navigate the National Electrical Code (NEC®) for basic installations
- Safely operate multimeters and clamp meters
- Install and terminate basic branch circuits
- Successfully pass NCCER CORE written and performance assessments for each module, meeting industry standards for entry-level employment in the trades.
Upon successful completion of this class, students will earn their Basic Electrical Concepts Credential.
Electrical 201.3
Electrical Applications and Lighting
Course: 201.3 Electrical Applications and Lighting (100 hrs)
Course Description: This advanced course focuses on practical electrical installations and lighting systems. Students will learn to bend conduit, install device boxes, wire lighting fixtures, and troubleshoot circuits—all in compliance with NEC® standards. Hands-on labs and field experience prepare students for real-world electrical work.
Upon successful completion of this class, students will be able to:
- Apply NEC® standards for device boxes, raceways, conductors, and lighting
- Install and secure various types of device boxes
- Perform accurate hand bending of EMT and PVC conduit
- Select and install conductors and cables for specific applications
- Read and interpret electrical construction drawings
- Use test equipment to verify circuits and troubleshoot faults
- Assemble and install raceway systems (EMT, PVC, flexible conduit)
- Wire lighting fixtures, dimmers, and sensors to NEC® standards
- Troubleshoot residential and light commercial electrical issues
Upon successful completion of this class, students will earn their NCCER Level 1 Electrical Certification.
Upon successful completion, students will earn their:
- NCCER Core Certification
- OSHA-10 Certification
- Basic Electrical Concepts Certificate
- NCCER Level 1 Electrical Certification
